gluten free desserts on the go!

robyn and I have our normal stomping grounds here in vancouver for finding gluten free groceries, such as Choices Market or Whole Foods however recently I was at Costco stocking up on household items and frozen berries when I saw a twelve pack of individual size rice puddings that I thought my husband would enjoy. when I got home and put them away in the fridge, something caught my attention, the package said they are gluten free!

I couldn’t believe it. I opened one up right away and tried it, and it was good! I mean for something I had just bought in Costco, it was pretty darn good. I looked at the brand, Kozy Shack, which I had never heard of, and did a quick google search to find that yes indeed the rice pudding is gluten free, and in fact all of their dessert products are gluten free. they also make chocolate pudding, tapioca pudding, and flan to name a few.

you can buy the desserts in single portion containers, which are so useful for taking anywhere. the larger containers contain about four servings, but if you love this as much as I do you’ll end up forgetting about portion control, and make it two, or even one serving…sigh.

I have since been on the look out for Kozy Shack puddings and desserts at other grocery stores. so far I have found them at No Frills, Buy Low Foods, and Meinhardt. I looked for them at Choices Market in Kitsilano and they did not have it, I was shocked. the cheapest price was at Costco and the most expensive price was at Meinhardt’s on south granville, obviously.

to date I have tried the rice pudding, the tapioca pudding, and the chocolate pudding. among these three my favorite is the rice pudding. however, my favorite dessert is flan, and I am on the look out for the Kozy Shack flan, if you have seen it anywhere please let us know. also, let us know if your local grocery store sells these products and we’ll update the list.  Andrea.

I think I might have seen Kozy Shak at either Save On or Superstore ...I'll look again. I know I did not see it at Costco as I don't shop there...I'll surely let you know.

Hi Trish, yes please let us know. I still haven't found the flan! I just bought more rice pudding from Costco, in the 12 pack size for $5.79, a great price.
