sweet gluten free

gluten is known to be found in breads, pasta, and cereals, but it is also commonly found in other things like candy and chocolate. gluten containing ingredients to watch out for in confectionary products are wheat flour, wafer, malt, and/or modified food starch.
Andrea and I came across Sharkies a few years ago and have been pretty hooked on them. we were sugar nuts as kids so we were happy to find some sugar treats that were safe to eat. Sharkies are organic fruit chews that are not only gluten free, they are nut free and vegan. Sharkies come in four tasty flavors; citrus squeeze, fruit splash, berry blast, and watermelon scream all in little shark shapes. most natural health food stores will carry Sharkies, including Whole Foods, Capers, and Choices Markets. you can also order bulk (packs of twelve) from the Sharkies website. other candy that I have found to be safe are the natural wine gums in the bulk sections at Save-On Foods and Whole Foods.
as for chocolate, most will contain gluten, but there are many natural chocolatiers that offer safe chocolate including Daniel and Purdy's Chocolates. Dagoba is another organic chocolate bar and cocoa line that is gluten free too. so far Andrea and I have only found one brand of gluten free chocolate chips for baking, called Enjoy Life.
if you have any other gluten free candy recommendations, please leave a comment!  Robyn.

If looking for GF candy - ALL Tootise Roll products are GF. Some have modified food starch in the ingredients but they only use corn and soy. The facility is GF as well.
