I have just been offered a job in Vancouver, and am in the process of moving. (I'm currently staying at the YWCA until an acquaintance's room opens up.) Right now, the most important thing is a list of inexpensive gluten-free restaurants, since cooking in a shared kitchen is somewhat dangerous. Eventually, the most important thing will be finding a gluten-free group or organisation.

Gluten free food is becoming easier to find in Vancouver, thank goodness, but is still quite expensive. I'd love to see a focus on living gluten free on a budget, including good places to by gluten free ingredients cheaper (ie. Quinoa or buckwheat).

I think reviews of restaurants and products are useful. It seems like most gluten-free products/foods are either great or terrible, no real in-between.

I like learning about the restaurants I can eat at :)

I'm always interested in hearing about new gluten free products that are available in Canada, as I keep hearing about great new gf products - only available in the US!

As a gluten-free vegan, I struggle to find restaurants that can feed me. I would love to hear about these new restaurants and see if they have vegan options.

I love the carefully researched restaurant reviews. I generally take gluten-free dining reviews with a grain of salt but I totally trust your logical judgment and know that you've asked the right questions.

I also like hearing about product selections in local grocery stores. I keep thinking I've found them all and then a new store gets on the gluten-free train. Dan-d-pack is my most recent find - not the Dan-d-pack brand name products themselves but their actual retail outlet on West Broadway - a great selection of Bob's Red Mill and much more. Oh, and Bosa Foods carries a great Italian made Corn Pasta and Rice Pasta. It's also just a fun shopping experience.

For maddie_s: I have found that Nuba (3 locations) serves amazing Lebanese food and has a really good understanding of Vegan and Gluten-free diets. Although their prep area has potential for cross contamination (as most do) they make every effort to accommodate me.

I'm just starting to get comfortable dining out. Having been diagnosed last year at 23 was definitely a huge change! I was really scared to eat anywhere and have transitioned into sushi and have fallen back in love with it!! I'm always looking for new gf items and restaurants that accommodate the gf diet and especially ones that understand it! Still wanting to go for Pho but haven't found a place yet that even understands the word "gluten". These truffles would be amazing as I've just gotten back into chocolate as well! Found out Green and Blacks are gf and have been staying away from all other chocolates including truffles - i've been to scared!
love this blog for everything gf in vancouver!!!

I have a really hard time at restaurants (even the ones that say they are Celiac friendly). How do you approach the staff to let them understand your needs without (a) boring them (b) having them roll their eyes b/c you are "so sensitive" (aka high maintenance) (c)have them run you out of the restaurant b/c they are too scared to feed you?

Being an avid traveler I am finding more and more gluten-free options around the world. This past summer I was in the UK for a month and stumbled upon a great franchise called Hell's Pizza. They carried delicious gourmet gluten-free pizzas. To my surprise the franchise recently opened a restaurant in North Vancouver. We LOVE our Friday night pizza nights now. I am highly sensitive and can safely eat there every time with no incidents. The manager has a mom who has Celiac and takes extra precautions to make sure cross-contamination is under control. Check it out!!!

Thanks for all the tips..great to know that there are others with my struggles!

Hello! I just stumbled upon your site 3 days ago - wow and thank you! I've recently moved to Vancouver; therefore are still in the process of figuring out the best places to buy gluten-free ingredients. As so many baked gluten-free products are costly, I have resorted to educating my self in baking bread etc (with fairly good success - with the assistance of the website Gluten Free Girl & the Cheif). I have been purchasing all the flours at Wholefoods, but find them to be more expensive than at Planet Organic in Alberta. Any suggestions? I of course love chocolate and would love to be the lucky winner! Keep up the fantastic work!

What I appreciate in your blog is the GF dining-out information. I can safely cook in my own kitchen easily enough, but I like to know where I can go to eat with friends.

What I'm really looking for (and haven't found yet) is a local brew-pub making GF beer. There are places in Portland producing draft sorghum beers, but no one is doing it in Vancouver yet. If you find that out, you'll make me the happiest guy around!
