attention ikea shoppers!
this all changed a few months ago when a friend alerted me to a cake that Ikea sells which is made by a company called Almondy, and it's gluten free! I asked her a million questions, I mean, how can this be? I had to find out for myself so I beelined it to my nearest Ikea and went straight to the shop, and I found them...easily...stacked in an open freezer. I looked on the box, and found the magic words—gluten free! Almondy makes several cakes, but what you will find at Ikea are the almond tårta with dark chocolate, and the almond tårta with DAIM, which is so popular it actually has an unofficial facebook fan page! DAIM is a crunchy almond butter almond bar, similar to a Heath bar, and can also be bought in the shop on it's own. this cake is very sweet, but oh so addictive, try it for yourself and you will see what I mean. the cakes are sold frozen, and can be stored frozen, or in the refrigerator. I prefer to keep mine in the freezer, and I like to eat them only slightly defrosted. even when frozen, they are still very easy to slice and serve, perfect on a hot summer day.
the Almondy cakes are also sold in the Ikea restaurant, but they have been pre-sliced into individual portions, and are in the display case with other gluten-containing foods and desserts, therefore cross contamination could be an issue. when i was there, the Almondy cakes were on the top shelf so they are probably not littered in crumbs, but who knows about cross contamination when they are unpackaged and sliced. Ikea also has their own brand of cakes which are also gluten free; an almond cake and a blueberry cake, which tasted like a pop tart to us, we don't recommend it. it is hard to find information about Ikea foods online, but you can ask for a printed list of their gluten free foods in the shop. it is merely a list, however, and simple like their infamous instruction booklets. there are no ingredients or nutritional information listed, for that you should consult the product packaging.
now go on, get out to Ikea already! you will enjoy your shopping experience from beginning to end! Andrea.

They also have a cheesecake that is quite good! I think it is the ikea brand, not sure if the front of the box says gluten free, but it does above the nutitional information! I often take this and the dark chocolate almond cake to event and no one even knows they are gluten free!
