Andrea and I are really excited about Vancouver’s first all gluten free grocery store that opened recently, called Ed’s Gluten Free Specialty!
Ed’s Gluten Free Speciality carries exclusively gluten free products, including many favorites like Udi’s, Glutino, Kinnickinnick, Bob's Red Mill, Mary’s Gone Crackers, and Quejo’s, but also a unique range of other products like Orgran, GoGo Quinoa, Kettle Cuisine and Stella’s that no other store, including Whole Foods or Choices, carries! Ed’s Gluten Free Specialty has managed to bring in an excellent selection of gluten free products found nowhere else. the following is a list of our gluten free product highlights found at Ed’s:

Eds also carries Lucy's cookies, instant miso soup called King Soba, gravy mixes from Maxwell's Kitchen, chicken finger and onion ring mixes from Hol Grain, gluten free marshmallows and jelly beans, and a unique sandwich toasting bag called Toast-a-Bags.
Andrea and I are working on a few reviews of gluten free products found at Ed’s including a cookie review of GoGo Quinoa’s chocolate chip cookies, a rice crispy square recipe using Dandies marshmellows, review of Toast-a-Bags, as well as our thoughts on Stella’s perogies and ravioli.
Ed’s is the perfect place to shop if you are celiac, gluten intolerant, or stocking up for someone who is! happy gluten free shopping! Robyn.

HANG ON. did you just say there are gf/dairy-free perogies???? i'm not going to get excited yet. just in case. (i'm from saskatchewan and grew up with a ukrainian family next door, you can't imagine how much i miss perogies!)
Not all gluten-free. They carry wheat-free Flax4Life muffins, which contain oats. Flax4Life claims their muffins have no gliadin (wheat gluten) and post lab results backing this up. Unfortunately, oats contain the gluten protein known as avenin.
Some celiacs can tolerate avenin. Others, such as myself, cannot. Just a buyer-beware warning.
Not to rain on anyone's parade but this is not the first gluten free store in Vancouver. There has been one for quite some time called Panne Rizo. If you can't tell from the name it is Rice Bread. It has been on the kits side of Burrard street bridge on Cornwall since I don't know when but quite a few years. But yay for more choice!
thanks for your comments everyone!
ariane, the perogies and ravioli from stella's are fantastic!
jeff, great point about being careful about oats. its a reminder for everyone to always check ingredient labels even if the product says gluten free. andrea and I discussed oats and avenin in this blog post: http://glutenfree-vancouver.blogspot.com/2010/02/gluten-free-cookies-at-starbucks.html
and anonymous...the point of this article was to feature vancouver's first gluten free grocery store. panne rizo did open years ago but is primarily a bakery with a few grocery items on their shelves. in contrast, you can actually do most of your grocery shopping at Ed's.
thanks for reading our blog!

I'll definitely have to check it out - Pane Rizo is actually useless to me because almost all of their stuff has either yeast or dairy in it (both no-no's for me). Choices GF bakery is pretty great but It's really fantastic to have some more options!
superb blog i just visit your blog its really great

We have gone ahead and marked products that contain oats in our store with a neon orange sticker on the price tag. we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate the feedback.
Not so hip on the taste of Panne Rizo's focciacia bread. Dry. However, the shortbread is to die for!
I just took a trip into Ed's Gluten Free! I will never shop at choices, wholefoods, or any other big grocery store again! They had so many choices it was incediable! It felt amazing to go in and just feel like I can eat again! Some of the great finds I found where Molly b's crepes and brownies! The namasta mixes and so easy to make and are amazing! I tried the pizza crust and it tasted like real pizza! Omg and they got new ravioli's, spinach and cheese and sundried tomato, both were amazing!
If you haven't been go! Your eyes will be opened up!
